February 2012

Valentine's Day!! YAAAY!! (and a bunch of other things happening, too!)

Yes, this is the month when we'll all go into a frenzy trying to find innovative, memorable ways to express our love to those who hold a special place in our hearts. It's estimated that this month we'll spend well over $17 billion dollars in cards, chocolates, flowers, jewelry, hot air balloon rides and a whole bunch of other ways to express our love to that special someone. All I have to say about that is; if you REALLY want to impress them, give me a call and buy them a house!

(No, really! Give me a call and let's buy 'em a house!!)

Lee County Parade of HomesThe Lee County Building Industry Association is currently hosting the 2012 Parade of Homes. There are 42 different furnished models open to the public, showcasing some of the best new residential construction in our area. The event is free to the public and scheduled for "the first three weekends in February", specifically Thursday thru Sunday which offers plenty of time to download the Event Map and go check out these beautiful homes NOW!

ArtFest Fort Myers
If you missed ArtFest on February 4 & 5.. well, what I can say? We almost missed it ourselves! We were lucky enough to hit downtown Fort Myers late on Saturday and even though we managed to catch only the tail end of that day's show we were impressed with the quality and variety of the works we saw. Luckily, the show continued the next day.  We spoke to a few of the artists and all were very positive and enthusiastic about the event. One exhibitor even commented that he had sold enough of his works to actually be running low on inventory - and he still had two more shows booked in other towns! Congratulations to the organizers for putting together a really worthwhile event!  More info on their website http://artfestfortmyers.com/

IS THIS A GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD?

So many of our northern friends think of buying their Florida Dream Home or investment property without enough information about what we've all heard are the three most important things about buying real estate; location, Location and LOCATION!

As licensed professionals, real estate sales agents are constrained by the Fair Housing Act from offering their personal opinions regarding the character or quality of any neighborhood or community. Such practice, often referred to as "steering", may be considered discriminatory.   Yet the questions are always there; "Is this a safe neighborhood?" "Is this a "good" part of town?"

Aside from the fact that the price of any property should be a fair indicator of its quality, we encourage our out-of-state buyers to take the time and effort to actually see the property in person; touch it, smell it, taste it! Drive around the area, talk to the neighbors, visit the nearby stores, schools and churches. There's no better way to find out if this is a purchase you'd be happy with. Your Realtor can certainly tell you when the roof was last replaced or how far away the nearest supermarket may be, but not whether or not you'll like the guy across the street!  I'm more than happy to help my valued clients in any way I can but there's just no substitute for first-hand knowledge of the area when making the decision of where and what to buy!

There are also many sources of information available on the web. Below are some links which may be helpful in your preliminary research before deciding to visit our region to buy real estate.
